8/29/16

Dear Parents,

Last week we conducted our first Parent Advisory Committee meeting. I would like to THANK ALL of the members for their time and genuine desire to provide constructive feedback.

During the meeting, we discussed several topics and shared ideas designed to improve operational practices, parent communications, community involvement, security and more. As such, over the coming weeks the PAC members have agreed to provide additional feedback and insight on proposed changes, improvements and on other related school priorities.

The following items were highlighted during our PAC meeting and we agreed to study and prioritize potential solutions and communicate accordingly –

  • Promote a consistent approach to ensuring school communications are clear and timely

  • Ensure all relevant items are posted on the website (menu’s, schedules, news)
  • Send weekly bulletin sent out by specific location
  • Improve communication with existing families related to classroom transitions
    - classroom specific orientation (sent via email & posted on website)
    - ensure there is clarity on the why’s & when’s regarding transitions
    - 1 to 2 week advance notice
  • Initial onboarding
    - include a more detailed review of curriculum
    - post onboarding material on website
    - use facetime or skype for orientation and other meeting types
  • Wanted more planned parent awareness events & videotaped updates
  • Suggested pre-planned parent night out dates (annual calendar)
  • Liked the survey – suggest more surveys in the future
  • Feel the teachers are solid – but, communication opportunities are limited (suggested parent /teacher nights)
  • Did not understand the management structure and whom to contact
  • Thought the classrooms looked and functioned well (generally) but did not fully understand the classroom layout and functionality
  • Some of the noted items have already been addressed and I look forward to sharing more great stuff with you in the coming days and weeks.
